Wodonga

I don’t travel for work as frequently as I did earlier in my career, so spending a few days in Wodonga is refreshing. Wodonga is located on the border with New South Wales and is part of the twin city of Albury-Wodonga, which is situated on the Murray River’s southern bank.
Wodonga was established as a customs post alongside its twin city, Albury. The town experienced significant growth after the first bridge across the Murray River opened in 1860. It was initially named Wodonga, then changed to Belvoir, before returning to its original name. The local Indigenous Waywurru name for the area, “Wordonga,” refers to an edible plant or nut found in lagoons. Wodonga gets around 125.1 clear days annually, mainly in the summer and early autumn. Winters are rainy and cloudy, with breaks of sunny days during periods of high-pressure systems.
Wodonga boasts a lively community with numerous cultural and sports activities. A significant portion of the arts and theatre scene operates across borders; for example, HotHouse Theatre is situated roughly halfway between the city centres of Wodonga and Albury. Additionally, the area features several sports grounds commonly visited by locals when not hosting organised events.
