Just hit 2000 day streak of daily writing here! 🔥🔥
Some thoughts:
Quitting is fake
When fatigue sets in, the thoughts of quitting comes in. But every single time, after good sleep, taking it easy, once the fatigue passes, no quitting thoughts no more. Goes to show: Those thoughts of quitting are fake. Temptations when the will is weak. Never believe them.
Daily writing is meant to be hard.
All the distracting thoughts of quitting, being too busy, too tired, too unmotivated, not having ideas on what to write. All are part of the game. You win this daily writing game when you overcome these. There’s nothing else to it. On the flip side, if you’re cruising through and finding daily writing too easy, you’re probably under-challenged and not doing your best writing.
It’s lonesome.
As the streaks get longer, the community gets smaller. Even here. Over the years, one by one, people had been dropping off. Even those who had inhuman streaks. It’s not difficult to see a probable trajectory in some distant future, where the community goes to zero. Keeping a crazy writing streak is a lonely journey, a lonesome habit. It’s like that Zen koan “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?”. If you keep writing and publishing publicly like on Lifelog, and there’s no one else to witness it, read it, comment on it, does it still matter? The answer to that question decides if you will still be writing at day 10,000, or not.
Forwards!
