2025 Mantra

Along with resolutions, I see many people posting on social media about having a word for 2025. I don't begrudge the idea. In fact, those people are way ahead of those still spinning their wheels more than a week into the new year.

I'm always cautious about setting a broad theme for a year because I don't want that intention to lock me into something too rigid if circumstances change. In my mentorship group, the leader suggested creating a mantra for 2025. A mantra is something that centers you and keeps you focused on your vision of yourself.

The Verba quote device has provided me with many moments of inspiration, and this quote happened to catch my eye:

This quote speaks to me because I have viewed my entire professional career as separate from my personal life. There's the job, where I'm clocked in for eight hours (sometimes more) every day to trade hours for dollars, and then there's the rest of my life. I am a recovering workaholic, and I recognize how that choice created many challenges in my life, not least of which are health problems.

Almost magically, my mantra materialized in my mind. I'm not going to pretend I created it. I'm sure I heard it somewhere, and now it has deep meaning for me.

Wow. Nice one, very nice! Love it so much I wished I wrote it and it’s my mantra!

You’ve been coming up with bangers all this week btw! Keep em coming!

I’m happy that you are getting a benefit. Take any of it that suits you.

Nice! I’m a recovering workaholic, too. When my twins were young it was REALLY bad. I said no to every family gathering or outing because I wanted to work. And it wasn’t like I was working. I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life but I felt stuck and scattered.

I decided to change my default answer to my family to yes. Not just family, but also my health and mental well-being.
