All Night Long

I'm suffering from self-induced sleep deprivation today. I didn't get to sleep until after midnight last night, and the Morning Brandon doesn't care about that. I was still up before 6 AM. But it was worth it.

Last night my partner and I attended a concert featuring Lionel Richie, with special guests Earth, Wind & Fire, neither of which I had seen live before. I'll start with the opening act. Earth, Wind & Fire is an ensemble of incredible musicians. There are still three original members, all in fine form. I cannot say I'm familiar with much of their music, but they had some fantastic jam sessions. You have likely heard their top hit September. They played about an hour, and then we had a 30-minute intermission before the main act.

Lionel Richie is an absolute music legend. He was a solidified star with his first band, The Commodores, and then he took his career to new heights with his solo career. Lionel is 77 and delivered an entertaining and amazing show. He had plenty of banter with the audience and played all the hits. In fact, I would say there was not a single clunker the whole night. I recognized every song. You've almost certainly heard Dancing on the Ceiling and All Night Long. We were even treated to a duet with an AI Kenny Rogers and Lionel singing Three Times a Lady and an audience sing-along of We Are the World. I would also say whoever does his stagecraft is a creative genius. The lighting and effects were top-notch.
