Alone

Some of my fondest memories of feeling wildly alive, happy and light were when I was alone. Not lonely, but alone.

Cycling to the dappling sunlight under sakura in full bloom, in Kyoto.
Savouring the tangerine taste notes in a small latte, alone in a tiny cafe in Japan.
Reading inside a bookstore somewhere in France.
Leaping into the the clean, clear glacial waters in Stockholm.
Learning yoga, exploring temples in Rishikesh, India.
Sunrise meditation in Plum Village, Bordeaux, France.
Drifting along in a hand-paddled boat in the Ganges River at dawn.

There’s people around. But I’m usually there by myself. Nobody knows me. There’s nothing expected of me. No duties and responsibilities to fulfil. No schedule. No agenda. No one.

It’s strange how, we go through life trying to accumulate more and more people around us, but the best moments come when you’re alone.
