Back to building Lifelog

I’m backkkk at it, guys.
Back at building features for Lifelog. Finally… I can restart 🍟 Side Project Weekend!
Looking through the Lifelog’s changelog, my last shipped feature was early this year, in Feb 2024. So it was a 6 month hiatus!
Been waaay too long 😅
I blame the old laptop. One day it simply decided to stop running the Nuxt.js app in local development, so I had to wait till I got the new laptop. Later the delay got compounded by the insanely busy consulting period and subsequent burnout from April till June.
But excuses aside… What should I build?
My approach is the same as before – a “no plan is the plan” approach:
Build first based on inspiration, find opportunity later.
Generate momentum first, iterate/pivot later.
No roadmaps, but a few features and new ideas I’m contemplating:
- Finally add @ mentions in post body text
- Email reminders to not forget to write
- A better search bar of all posts
- More writing analytics in the style of Time Hop, to show more interesting data back to writers
- A momento mori progress bar/grid dots visual countdown of your life in weeks
- Some basic ChatGPT integration for say, setting goals, breaking it down to milestones. Or better Related Posts recommendations using AI to summarize and select.
- Maybe update Learn More page, SEO, blog posts, free tools, compare pages, feature pages for marketing
- Email drip course on daily writing habit?
- Optimizing speed and page load, especially streak calculation
Any other ideas?

ganbatte JSON!
Mentions in the body of text would be great. I would also like a way to search my posts.

@Winkletter Oooh love that. Adding a progress bar to goals is fun. Will add that to the list!
@poppacalypse Thanks bro!
@therealbrandonwilson Yes, long awaited features. Appreciate the patience all this while! I’ve been using Google to search for my old posts… not great.

I have one: internal linking! a la ghost: https://ghost.org/changelog/internal-linking/

@drodol Oh wow that’s a cool feature. Similar to search but inline while editing. Thanks for that! Will add to the list

Adding more ideas to the pot via @Paulina on WIP:
I like the email drip course on daily writing habit. You might want to take a look at the Autoresponder Madness course by Andre Chaperon.
Random ideas for your inspiration:
- ChatGPT integration to give you a daily writing prompt. Pair this with the email reminder.
- ChatGPT integration to make a summary of your last X posts so that you can review what you’ve written about.
- Show posts from other people that talk about related topics.
- Add the screenshot image to the Tweet share. Screenshots of essays are popular on X.
- Add an inspirational quote about writing at the top of the draft page.

I’d like features that reinforce the goal-orientation… and I just made an example of what I want: Trackersnap, a shortcode where I can enter a title, goal, unit of measure, and current number and it generates a progress bar.
Of course, this can be expanded into various other trackers. But this is the simplest form I could think of.
