Back to vanilla PHP 🍦

Just undusted the Digital Ocean VPS I deployed 8 months ago…

It’s such a shame I made zero progress on PHP since. Life happened, work happened. I got vortexed into frontend dev freelancing in July last year, exactly a month after I started PHP-ing. Shit got real, the learning curve got really steep and stressful in the proceeding months, and before I knew it, 2024 was over, and no PHP API app.

But it is still part of my dream tech stack, albeit with some recent updates:

  • Frontend: Just plain HTML, JS and Tailwind. No more plain CSS, not as productive. Also, I love Vue/Nuxt, maybe for more complex apps, but just not sure I want to deal with node_modules ever again.
  • Backend: PHP to run API endpoints for frontend to consume.
  • Database: SQLite for database.
  • Hosting: VPS, like Digital Ocean.
  • CDN: Cloudflare / Netlify

That dream never left me. I think I needed time to transition and settle into a new career as a frontend dev, and now, after 8 long months, it’s time to return.

Vanilla PHP here I come (back)!🍦
