Be imperfect

Sometimes, striving hard to give and to be perfect for someone or something makes the recipient uncomfortable.
You might just be trying to play a role nobody had asked for.
All that selfless, self-sacrificing martyrdom is not always acknowledged, nor appreciated. It might not even be seen. Nobody wants the burden (and guilt) of someone’s selflessness. It’s too heavy. And saying you’d die for them is the worst of those burdens. They didn’t ask for it, they didn’t want it.
Being too good at giving and bad at receiving tilts the score too much on your side. People do keep a score board, you know, even those close to you. 100:1 makes people feel like they owe you too much. You might also get resentful and bitter at giving too much.
So be a bit more selfish.
Be more flawed.
Don’t try so hard.
Don’t put in so much effort.
Be less intense.
Being imperfect makes people feel comfortable. About themselves.
It was never about you.
Be imperfect.
