Being busy is a form of laziness

Slow down and remember this: Most things make no difference. Being busy is a form of laziness—lazy thinking and indiscriminate action. Being overwhelmed is often as unproductive as doing nothing, and is far more unpleasant. Being selective—doing less—is the path of the productive. Focus on the important few and ignore the rest. – Tim Ferriss

This was powerful to read.

I’ve always saw hard work—and by extension, being busy—as a badge of honour. But maybe it’s just copium, for “lazy thinking and indiscriminate action”, for a lack of intention. Because if I’m busy it feels like I’m doing something, working towards something. But I might be in the wrong direction.

And with my consulting work and family, child-caring situation, where I’m already stretched for time, it just makes it easier to fall into the trap of not thinking much and acting indiscriminately.

The solution?

I should develop a distaste, an aversion even, of being busy. When I’m too busy to even think, alarm bells should go off.

Slow down. Do less. With intention.
