Burnout

OK I’m calling it: I am burned out.

At its worst, I might have hit 11.
Maybe now, I’m at stage 9.

I’ve actually been resting for the past 3 weeks, but here’s the funny thing: Only when I started to rest did the symptoms of burnout start to show:

  • Feeling constantly tired, drained
  • No enthusiasm, feeling apathy
  • Difficulty completing tasks I set out
  • Feeling a sense of failure (real or imagined)
  • Needing to sleep more

It’s like the body knows it no longer needs to hold up.

Reading WebMD, I kinda check off all the boxes for risk factors for burnout. That means, I’m more likely to get burned out if I have these conditions:

  • Difficulty maintaining work-life balance
  • Having a “Type A” personality (being hyperfocused on work and achievement)
  • Competitive workplaces with lots of high-performers
  • High-pressure social and work environments
  • Cultural expectations

It’s no wonder. My personality is totally Type A. I always struggled with balance. Indie hacking is competitive in some sense.

So the remedy is… keep resting till I get better?

I’m already feeling better after 3 weeks, honestly. All the sleeping in, afternoon naps, minimal work (that’s why I’m not here much, sorry guys), spending more time with family, eating better and healthier, are definitely helping.

Onwards…
