Burnout is a luxury

Burnout is a luxury.

For me. For now.

I definitely feeling the heat. When survival is at stake, you got to just show up and go to work, whether you feel like it or not. People in financial pickle—when you have to put food on the table, else the family starves—don’t really have the luxury to just rest and do nothing when burned out.

“I think depression is a luxury. Because where I’m from, you can’t afford to be depressed. You gotta pay the bills right? You gotta go to work. You gotta get up. You gotta go do what you gotta do. You got people right now at work that don’t feel like being there. But they got responsibilities… They feel uncomfortable while they’re working…” – 50 Cent, on how depression is a luxury

Yeah I’m taking a short break now but honestly speaking, it definitely feels like a luxury for me, because the guillotine is hanging over my head all the while I’m ‘resting’.

For some, it’s necessary to rest. For some, it’s a privilege to rest.

Caveat: Not saying that you’re weak/soft if you feel burned out. By all means if you have the means to rest, you should. I’m resting now too. But the reality is not everyone can take time off till they’re 100%. For some, it’s not an option at all. It is what it is.

I admit, I have a tiny bit of buffer now after my projects paid up. So I rest now. But I can’t wait till I’m 110% recovered. I don’t have that luxury. My family doesn’t.

Just have to top back to 60% perhaps, and it’s time to go again.
