Bye bye design

It’s time to cut the cord.

Since starting out on my current career as a frontend dev, I’ve been feeling apprehensive cutting off old links and opportunities to my previous design consulting career. Let’s just keep it warm, I thought, just in case…

But it’s been almost one year since I last did any design consulting or coaching. And my gear is just sitting there, eating dust, taking up space at home. But today was the day. Not sure what triggered it.

Maybe it’s because I’ve recovered from burnout.
Maybe it’s because I’m no longer fighting for financial survival.
Maybe it’s because consulting opportunities had been dry for a long time now.

Inspiration struck. Asked my last non-profit client if they would like an in-kind donation. Packed up all the workshop materials. Booked a delivery van. Off it went. Done in a morning.

Client asked if I’m quitting. I said yeah.

And that was it.

The last of the past baggage gone.
The first time I told a client I am no longer in the industry.
First of many, I believe…

Bye bye design.
It’s been a fantastic past decade of meaning and purpose.
But new purpose calls out to me now.
And I have to go.

Onwards.
