Days of troubles past

One year ago I wrote how I was in financial trouble.

This seems to be a repeating patterns ever since the pandemic. I’ll be in trouble, then a gig or two comes along, and I survive. Last year seems similar, but looking at what I was planning then, it’s amazing how things totally panned out in ways that I never expected.

• I was hoping for consulting and micro-consulting to work out, since it had always been the main income stream and cash cow, but it didn’t. I think I held out hope for it for far too long. Which is why I’m glad I moved on to…
• Freelance web dev and remote, part-time jobs. I might have thought about it a year ago but I didn’t move on things only until May (for Carrd social media manager gig) and July (for web dev freelancing)this year! Don’t ask why I took this long… I really should have tried earlier on this opportunity sitting right under my nose. Would have saved myself a lot of grey hairs.
• I also gave good effort in finding fulltime employment back in government to tide things through, but discovered that there’s no way I can do it if I want to continue running my SaaS and products. Bye bye 9-5.
• I got started doing more training workshops, which wasn’t in the plans at all. But it’s not my strength, and my heart’s not in it. It helps pays the bills, for now…

Sooo… if the past year had been anything prescient, it’s definitely signalling to me that the doors of the past—consulting, training, employment, or anything to do with design thinking—are closing fast or closed entirely now, and I better just leap through the new windows—web dev, coding, indie hacking—that’s opening up now.

Grateful for surviving the year.
Thankful that I am still in the arena.
Optimistic of where I’m headed towards.
