$10k a month

I used to have a ramen profitability goal of $5k per month. It’s the minimum I thought I should aim for, for a start. But after writing my recent post about “what’s your magic number?”, I realised I was aiming too low, even for a minimum.
I need to aim at a level where my products are paying me slightly more than what I would get from a 9-5 job, otherwise what’s the point? Besides, costs of living had increased significantly since the time I set $5k goal. All the more with a bad economy, and more, higher family expenses.
So I think $10k a month goal is a right minimum to aim for now. It’s the responsible thing to do as well, for my wife, kid and elderly parents.
Some will say, well it’s just numbers… go for 5, and then 10, then what?
It’s about having something concrete and tangible to look towards, to shoot for. Now I know I got to go higher, my expectations and behaviour will adapt accordingly. What I though might work to get to $5k might not work to get to $10k. So I probably need to approach it differently.
But ultimately, nobody cares. My family and I are the only ones with a real stake in this number. I’m writing this down to be accountable to myself. Revising my goal here too to match.
So, $10k it is! Onwards 💪

Yeah makes me wonder what the hell was I thinking with $5k/m previously 🙃

I approve of this number. In fact, it’s the same number I arrived at several years ago when I was noodling the idea of generating income on my own instead of through a traditional job.
