Akira Toriyama just passed away.

He’s the creator of the OG of manga and anime, Dragonball. I remember many a childhood memory reading the very first series. Getting really caught up in the main character Goku’s story. The joy from spending all my weekly pocket money on buying the next comic book release. That was the start of my appreciation for Japanese manga.

Lately I’ve started getting back to following the newer anime like One Punch Man, One Piece, which are turning out to be true shōnen classics in their own right.

Which are really Toriyama’s true creative legacy.

Inspiring a whole generation of stories to be told through this captivating theme of crazy action and adventure.

RIP Akira Toriyama (1955-2024).

Comments

I never watched Dragonball, but I do see lots of Dragonball references in other anime. The fact that I still catch those in-jokes shows how much of an impact he had.
