Going on sabbatical

I wrapped up my classes last week. I have a few homeworks to give, revision videos to record, final exams to prepare, then a couple of final exams to supervise, and I’ll be done from the semester! I’ll then be going on a one year sabbatical!

This is one of the most important and exciting developments in my life!

No classes for a whole academic year!

I’ll be conducting research on how to incorporate UX design principles to improve government services, but I’ll also have plenty of time to work on projects I’m looking forward to working on. At the top of my list is creating (and promoting!) online courses. My goal is to create a few courses early on in the sabbatical, then refining how I promote them.

I would absolutely love to have courses that can make enough money to replace my job. A life without scheduled commitments is the ideal life for me. As much as I enjoy teaching, I would prefer teaching asynchronously through online courses and social media content. I prefer having an open schedule. This, apparently, is an ADHD preference, as well, since ADHD brains tend to experience an amplified level of stress when it comes to scheduled commitments.

It’s now 5:32AM on a weekend day here in Kuwait (and a successful day 4 of my Miracle Morning challenge). I’ll be planning what I intend to do in the next couple of months and how I intend to promote my first online course for the season: Your Feelings are Your Friends.

More updates to come in the days (weeks, months, and year) ahead!

Are you planning to market the courses before creating them as some online course makers suggest?

Maybe later courses. But for the first course, I felt more comfortable having something to offer and getting familiar with what’s involved in creating the course, especially getting better at estimating how long the course creation process would take.

I will still need to refine my messaging and figuring out how best to market the course. I’ll apply these learnings to upcoming courses. It might then make sense to first market the course and refine the message before I actually create the course.
