Good old days, 2026 edition

Re-reading this post from the same time last year made me think:

Andy’s still right.

It’s still the good old days of my indie hacking journey. Even after one year. Today.

Some things had changed, or are gone. There’s no more early 4ams, little to no sleep deprivation now, hardly any close shaves with finances. But some things remain or recur, and some new ones entered the chat too:

  • The fear of survival. Once bitten by the survival bug, always shy. Always looking over my shoulder on this one.
  • The oftentimes exhausting grind to keep working, keep earning, keep feeding the family.
  • The nights researching for our big relocation, watching Youtube vids together to keep the fire burning.
  • Bringing lunches to my son every day, and not looking forward to the day when I stop.
  • Having new problems to worry about – travel, which destination to vacation to, how to juggle work with that, how to maintain health and routine, and the exhaustion after each trip.
  • The comfort and stability of daily routine, and how my body found safety and rest in that.
  • The delicious yuan yang C kosong di lo coffee after lunch every day.
  • The quiet life from not having to make noise on Twitter every single day.
  • The poignance from reflecting on it all.

So here’s to the good old days 🍻

And may I never leave them.

This Japan railway company’s commercial was playing in my head while I read this.
