Got my first Twitter impersonator

Just got my first Twitter impersonator. Honestly… I’m mildly flattered.

Here’s the back story:

Tim Bennetto @Timb03 was crowdsourcing a new name for his tweet scheduling product with a $500 cash giveaway. I like word play for product names, so I tried. His social media management tool was called Pallyy, so I thought, how about using a synonym and just adding a extra “y” at the end, to signal their affiliation to each other (and to Tim). The suggestion was Buddyy – good one right? I’m pretty pleased with it myself. And I ended up winning!

But because this was announced in public, that drove a few impersonators to try to claim it for themselves by DMing him. Tim nearly fell for it, but thankfully he was smarter and DMed me first. The reward money’s safe in the right Paypal account now haha.

One of the impersonators—besides copying the profile pic, banner and bio—even went as far as to RT my recent 6 tweets so that it mirrors my profile feed. Even the pinned tweet! 10 points for effort, I must say.
