Hard privileges

Work more, I’m concerned I’m not being present.
Work less, I’m scared of survival and feeding the fam.

Prioritize self care, I wonder if it’s selfish.
Care for family first, I feel I’ll burn out.

Strong discipline, I’m concerned if it will break my kid.
Giving space, I’m worried if he gets spoilt.

Talk about my needs, I fear it becomes a burden to my wife and loved ones.
Stay quiet about my needs, I become unseen, invisible and isolated.

Ask for help, I feel useless and imposing on others.
Carry it alone, I know it will break me into pieces.

Nobody said it’s gonna be easy.
But life’s best privileges are—by default—hard.

Better to have hard choices, beautiful life, than easy choices, poor life.
