I guess Reels are non-negotiable

I've written many times about my disdain for social media. When I finish my newsletter each week and hit publish, I'm on cloud 9, satisfied that I created another issue with great content. I then immediately fall to cloud 0 because the next step is promoting it on social media.
I recently started a course from Beach Boss Influencers called "60 Second Profits." In lesson 1, the trainer makes it clear that for anyone interested in growing a presence/business on social media, Reels are non-negotiable. Meta is prioritizing short-form video (60 seconds or less) over other content. 70% of Instagram users discover new accounts through video, not static posts. Reels get 3X more reach than static content. It's no wonder my text/picture posts are barely getting any traction.
I've been going through my Photos app and deleting old photos and videos in preparation for the iPhone 18 Pro, which I will have in my grubby hands on Friday. I found my one and only video that I posted on TikTok in 2020. I deleted that account, but not before I saved the video, which I think is a pretty "stop-the-scroll" moment. I posted it on FB this morning and already have 230 views, 9 likes, and 8 comments. So I guess there is something to these Reels, and I'm going to have to get over my reticence and use them to grow my presence and business online.

@therealbrandonwilson That’s a good reel - the shock value alone is hallmark of an engaging one lol

I usually watch more long-form videos, but when I do watch a short I’m surprised how many views and comments they get.
