Idea: Subdomain marketplace inside Carrd

Got a crazy idea today after tweeting about how my plugins.carrd.co side project got to number 1 spot on Google for keywords “plugins for carrd”.

That’s the beauty of building in public. You share what you did, and sometimes someone’s comment would spark new ideas for products. Like this one:

Thinking of replicating this approach for ‘marketplace’ ‘templates’ ‘stylings’ ‘elements’ ‘features’, etc. – @ZionSpirit

The commenter was saying that since plugins.carrd.co was so successful, we should try getting the .carrd.co subdomains for “marketplace”, “templates”, etc. That trigger a cascade of brain farts.

Imagine: A subdomain marketplace for Carrd, where people can trade, exchange, buy or sell their .carrd.co subdomains with one another. Kind of like domaining (or negatively known as domain squatting) but for just within the Carrd ecosystem. I think these domains might work well if you’re building a product/service for the Carrd ecosystem, so that the domain name is an exact match (e.g. selling Carrd templates using templates.carrd.co is a great domain name to have).

I got a bunch of sites which now seems like Carrd subdomains with potential:

A quick search for the common subdomains like templates, marketplace, elements, features, resources, libraries, crypto are all taken. A pity.

I went on to snag some based on ideas and opportunities I already have:

  • subdomains.carrd.co - for the subdomain marketplace of course!
  • ethereum.carrd.co - not strictly related to the Carrd ecosystem, but seeing how “crypto” and “bitcoin” are already taken, I thought I would snag it first. Might be a fun web3 project to try…?
  • customtemplates.carrd.co - Carrd calls them custom templates, so this might be just as relevant as the templates.carrd.co subdomain
  • cohortcourse.carrd.co - could be a possible future project to build a cohort based course for learning how to use Carrd

Looks like I got to upgrade my Pro plan to increase my sites limits, else I can’t keep up with the subdomaining game!

What else should I get?
