I'll die before I give up

There was a time in the past, early on in my indie hacking journey, where I would give myself arbitrary timelines to hit my goals.

“I’ll make it by the end of the year!” So confident, I was.

A year passed, nothing happened.

“Okay, let’s focus and really hammer this out next year!” Then nothing happened again.

“Damn, I can’t be any less smarter than these idiots making $10k a month!” Adding insult to wound on myself, I hunkered down some more.

And then some.

At some point, after enough years had gone by without results, you got no ego strength left. Only deep humiliation humility.

There’s a lot of power in deciding, “I’ll die before I give up.” – @IAmMarkManson

That’s when I realised, I really love this work. I love creating, building, making. No matter what. I really want this. Whatever it takes. A decade. Two decades. Till I die, even – that’s a bit dramatic, but the tone signals the gravity of the commitment.

It’s freeing. No more deadlines. Just pure intention.

I’ll die before I give up.

I don’t plan on taking a decade, or two decades.
But if I end up taking that long, if it has to, then so be it.

I’ll die before I give up.
