I'm ending š Side Project Weekend

Iāve been calling Lifelog my side project, and working on it on weekends, called š Side Project Weekend.
But it doesnāt feel nice reading it, does it? To know this treasured place is just someoneās side project.
I donāt know about you, but it always felt off, even though I kinda needed it when I named and started it. Back then, I needed to be able to let go and try other things, while continuing to build features for Lifelog. So that framing as a side project helped me. But now, Iām not so sure anymore.
What changed?
Because this is anything but side project. Itās one of MY projects, and a precious one. If it went down, I wouldnāt sit idle. Iād jump into fixing it. I canāt do without it for even a day, because writing is my daily mental hygiene now. I enjoy it, want it, and hope to keep it going for as long as I can.
And thatās not what youāll do to a side project.
So just as itās just a name back then, Iām shifting it again now. It might all sound like semantics, but words have power, and words frame our perspective of reality. Word choice matter. To me.
So I want to accord whatās fair to this project, and to the family here.
Itās just be my project, one of my many main projects, although not a huge or hugely profitable one.
Iāll still work on it on weekends. Maybe even on weekdays if I have time. Nothing changes, except my own personal framing. But with this new frame, maybe Lifelog would have a fresh new season. Iām not sure yet, but brewing ideas⦠something.
So bye bye š Side Project Weekend. Hello, main course š„©

@haideralmosawi Oh haha that wasnāt the plot twist I was expecting from reading the first few words.
The side project label worked for me 1-2 years ago I guess. But things have changed, Iāve changed, Iāve also got 1-2 more years of experience building Lifelog. So conditions were ripe to revise! But your mileage may vary for your side projects

@jasonleow Iāve been working on my āside projectsā since 2012. I definitely need to shift my priorities and help them thrive š
@haideralmosawi Wow 2012. Yeah agree. Letās shift gears and crush it!

I was going to impulsively share a disagreement while first reading your post because most of my cherished pursuits have been and continue to be āside projectsā (i.e. not my main, salaried source of income). BUT maybe thatās why theyāre not growing in size or getting the attention they deserve because Iām placing a boundary around them and keeping them on the side!
Damn this requires some reflection!
Thanks for the post!
