It's complicated

It seems that a lot of people muddy the waters when it comes to political and moral discussions by assuming a situation is complicated and, therefore, it’s hard to have an opinion on. I see complication as the beginning of a conversation, not the end of it.

Why don’t we untangle the complexity? Why don’t we try to figure out what’s involved, what our base assumptions are, and what needs to be questioned. Disagreement is natural, but that doesn’t mean we give up on discussion entirely simply because there will be disagreement or that some people are too stubborn to change their minds.

Have you looked away from an issue because you felt like it was too complicated? Have you interacted with people who looked away because an important issue was too complicated?

How can you see “it’s complicated” as an invitation to start a conversation, not to end it?
