Joyride wipeout

It had to happen eventually. I made it two months before my first wipeout in the go-kart.

I was peacefully working today when I saw those pesky neighborhood kids out riding on their segways, laughing and enjoying life. I decided to go on a little ride for lunch. I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary. It’s a bright, sunny day, and I was just riding on the road. I tried to make a tight turn and must have been going too fast or maybe I hit something in the road. I tipped the go-kart on its side and scraped my right side on the road. I was strapped in with the seat belt, so I didn’t launch. Without question, my helmet saved me. I got a cut near my right eye and road rash on my right cheek along with plenty of scrapes on my hands, right arm, and right knee. The go-kart did not escape unscathed either–the steering wheel is still attached but it broke and the right side is scraped up a bit. Actually, I think I ended up worse. I’m really annoyed that I broke my favorite Maui Jim sunglasses and need to send them in to repair a lens and one arm.

When I got back into the house, I looked into the mirror and was freaked out. My face looked wrecked with blood everywhere. It didn’t feel like anything serious, but out of an abundance of caution, I went to the urgent care. I had to send a cryptic email to my team to let them know I had an “urgent personal matter” to attend to. They cleaned up my face and applied something called “dermabond” instead of stitches.

I suppose it had to happen eventually. I’m glad no one else was involved. I was not being reckless. I had done the same type of turns previously in parking lots. I think there was something about the road that was a fluke. It’s time for The Big Kid to take a hiatus from speeding around. I’m not retiring permanently, just taking a break to recuperate.

Ouch! Sorry to read this! I read your last post about struggling to type and hadn’t read this post about the actual incident.

I wish you a speedy recovery. 🙏🏻 ✨
