Lose to greater and greater things

I’ve not come across a better explanation of why I keep moving my goal posts after I reached a goal:

The poet Rainer Maria Rilke reminds us that the best things in life will also humble us:

“This is how we grow: by being defeated by greater and greater things.”

$100 revenue target. Then $1000. Then $10k.

Just go for a walk for 5min in the morning. Then 10min. Then 15min. Then add static exercises, one by one, over months and years.

Build a project. Fail. Then other. Fail again. Then yet again. I’ve lost count how many projects I built.

Because because because this is indeed how I grow. By trying harder and harder things. And losing to greater and greater things… 99% of the time.

That 1% when everything flows, when you get to peak mode, when I do win, is all I need, all that matters.

Professional athletes train for years—decades—to achieve that mythical in the zone, peak performance mode. This is my version, for indie hacking.

Can’t stop.
Won’t stop.
