Made my first browser extension

Just made my very first Chrome browser extension!

A very basic color picker, in plain Javascript, HTML and JSON, vibecoded in two shots using just the free Google Gemini on the web browser. And you could use it even if you don’t publish this on the Chrome web store! Dumb dumb me… I always thought I had to register for a dev account, pay the fee, and publish it before I can even use it.

I used ColorZilla before, but the permissions it needed always made me a little uneasy. Never liked that. And these days, extensions get acquired and then go rogue, malware gets added and users are none the wiser. In the past we’d trade off potential security for the convenience. But now with AI, we don’t have to make the choice anymore. For simple extensions at least.

It’s crazy how easy it is now to build personal productivity tools!

Nice. I might have to go down that rabbit hole.
