Magnesium and moods

Back in May last year, I made a discovery that low magnesium levels is linked to low moods, higher stress, depression, insomnia, headaches and fatigue.
True enough, I shot myself in the foot again with my magnesium intake.
I recently added back a low dosage level magnesium L-threonate into my daily supplement, and stupidly decreased intake on my other higher dosage level magnesium supplement magnesium citrate. Previously L-threonate was the culprit and this time again. And true enough, I could feel low, depressive moods hovering over my head for the past 1+ months, especially the past week.
Right on cue.
And all the while I was struggling with motivation to work, feeling more stressed than ever, feeling more tired, and wondering if I’m burned out.
It’s not me. It’s just magnesium.
Urgh. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
No more thrice. I swear.

Dude. This. I’ve been feeling exactly like you describe for the past 1.5 week. How much are you taking? Daily?

@Winkletter Yes you should and go take it haha. Apparently most people aren’t getting enough of it and most might not even be aware.
@drodol Oh then you can definitely try. Apparently due to our modern diets and soil depletion and all, most people aren’t getting enough of it. It’s just supplements, so mostly little to zero harm. For adult males, you’ll need ~400mg per day. Try getting magnesium glycinate or magnesium citrate from iHerb. Most pharmacies carry magnesium oxide which isn’t the most ideal, easily absorbed form. I use this brand. Taking all 400mg in one go might challenge your stomach, so I suggest spreading out the capsules through the day after meals.

Good advice Jason! I will check them out and start taking them. I’ll keep close attention and report on results!

Me: “I wonder if I should take a magnesium supplement? … I wonder if I already have a magnesium supplement that I’m forgetting to take? … Yeah, I have magnesium L-threonate sitting on my shelf.”
