Men not doing well

How to tell when your father/husband/brother/buddy/male friend isn’t doing well:

  • He goes quiet, doesn’t talk much, if at all.
  • Constantly tired, always sleepy.
  • Sleeping a lot. Or sleeping too little.
  • Has little/zero friends. No one to call.
  • Starts distancing himself from everyone.
  • When asked, he always says “I’m fine”.
  • He works late, works too hard, works and works.
  • Has no time for anything.
  • No longer indulges in his hobbies.
  • No guy’s night out, no fun.
  • No time for gym, hardly works out.
  • Health takes a back seat.
  • He doesn’t share his feelings to keep the peace.
  • He just agrees and does what’s needed.
  • He sits long hours, quietly on his own.
  • Short bursts of temper, out of nowhere.
  • When ask what he prefers, he says up to you.
  • Gains the classic dad bod.
  • Maybe drinks a bit too much.
  • Does, wears, eats the same things every day.
  • Highly functional but something is off.
  • There for everyone, but no one’s there for him.
  • There, but not present.

If you see yourself here: Hi, you are seen. You exist.
If you see your dad here: Maybe check on him.
If you see your buddy here: Buy him a beer and pretend this never happened.

This has been a PSA from your local over-thinker, who may or may not be projecting.
No men were harmed in the making of this list (probably).
Sources: Just trust me, bro.

I feel seen. I have been there. If you are there, I can’t buy you a beer, but you please text me, you know how to reach me bro.

There for everyone, but no one’s there for him.

How you show up for others might mask the struggle you are going through. I’ve been there and I’ve seen it in others. Men struggling but looking cheerful in other people’s company. Many men seem “fine” on the outside because they’ve learned to mask the struggle. So, unfortunately, it’s not always easy to recognize the signs.

And as @drodol said, if you’re there, just remember we’re here for you and the struggle will pass. There is a lot of good we can experience in the world. ❤️

@drodol Thanks so much bro. Can always count on feeling seen by all of you guys here. Virtual beer here! 🍻🍻🍻

@haideralmosawi Thanks Haider, my man. Appreciate your words! Yes, this too shall pass. Yeah men—esp good men—do that very well, the masking, because we care and want to protect. Often to our detriment, unfortunately. Finding balance is hard.
