Money is a story

“Once you have enough for beans and rice and taking care of your family and a few other things, money is a story. You can tell yourself any story you want about money, and it’s better to tell yourself a story about money that you can happily live with.”
— Seth Godin
So good, from the maestro Seth Godin himself.
He could have said “once you’re past survival stage”, but he said “beans and rice”. He could have said “money mindset”, but “money is a story”.
Semantically, not much difference. But huge in the feelings the words invoke. Makes it so much more relatable.
So what’s the money story I want to be able to live happily with?
I don’t need Crazy Rich Asian levels of wealth.
I just need a “happy family, contentful lives” level of wealth:
- A loving household with caring, respectful relationships.
- A safe and warm house to love in.
- At least $10k per month earnings for a comfortable quality of life.
- 3 meals a day. Healthy, wholesome, natural foods.
- Being able to travel anywhere anytime.
- Private schooling for the kid.
- Any number of valuable experiences kid needs while growing up
- Good health, no chronic ailments
- Fit and strong to live life fully and joyously
- Purposeful, meaningful, fulfilling work.
What’s your money story?
