Move on from ProfilePicture.app?

So erhm… I’m losing steam for ProfilePicture.app

Or rather, it’s losing steam.

3 weeks since launch, the numbers are clear:

  • It’s mostly driven by lottery luck of going viral on X at the beginning.
  • Traffic from X was highest. Direct is second.
  • Somehow it got really popular in Indonesia, which drove the initial peak.
  • Not for lack of trying, but since then daily views is 100 or less.
  • I still don’t know where users come from, or how to reach them.
  • Still not hit on anything that people will pay for.

Maybe now’s the time to either quit, or to keep it as a SEO side hobby project to fiddle with over the long term.

Hard to swallow but it had a good run, and maybe it’s time to let go. Or at least, not put in much more effort.

A few ideas on how to continue:

  • Explore B2B opportunities - corporate HR initiatives for badges
  • Ads? But with traffic like that, unlikely to work
  • Sponsors? Same as ads…
  • Build for SEO keywords, and wait… Easiest possibility.

What else can I do?

Do you have paid options up already? If it has organic reach through SEO, it might still be a project worth developing.

stay as free tool, I assume not much resources, and drive traffic to others thing you build.

@haideralmosawi I don’t think SEO kicked in yet (if ever) 😭

@knight Yeah it costs nothing to keep it up, so it will stay free for now for sure.
