Next play mentality

"Take great care to avoid mistakes when the decision is hard to reverse.

But! If you make a mistake that is hard to reverse, there is no sense beating yourself up about it. Your responsibility is to make the best next choice given your current position. You must always make the most of the situation you are in.

Next play mentality." – James Clear

I love it. Next play mentality.

This pretty much sums up indie hacking for me. At least in the initial days.

12 startups in 12 months is the most famous form of next play mentality. Launch a product, see if it sticks, if there’s traction, attention or profit. If not, next play. And again and again, till 12 startups. Or till you hit one that has traction.

No point beating yourself up over the previous startup if it failed, because it’s not about not failing ever, but about failing in order to learn, about failure as the stepping stone for the next (eventual) win.

Next play mentality.

Fail.
Show up.
Fail.
Show up again.
Fail.
Ship again.

Ad infinitum.

Till you win.

Next play mentality.
