No

Just saw this on my social feeds:

If you’re not sure, it’s a no. If you don’t want to, it’s a no. If you’re not ready, it’s a no. If your intuition says no, it’s a no. If it feels bad, fake, forced, off, uncomfortable, or weird, it’s a no.

It’s a great reminder.

FOMO is often why I say yes too often. Yes to building another product I have no clue about. Yes to taking a call. Yes to another maker interview. Yes to joining a chat group. All because my next big opportunity could be right round the corner.

But oftentimes when I say yes to those things, it feels “bad, fake, forced, off, uncomfortable, or weird.” Something’s not right.

So maybe if I can’t put my full conviction—a “HELL YEAH!”—behind it, maybe I should just say no.

Learning to trust my instinct to say no - still got lots to grow in that area.

Comments

I am terrible for saying yes and then regretting it afterwards. Perhaps I am just trying to please people too much.

I agree with all except the inclusion of the word “uncomfortable.” That’s the zone where growth happens.

@tao Yeah I think people pleasing is definitely something that affects me too. I hate saying no to people in general…

@therealbrandonwilson True that. Different sort of uncomfortable I guess
