One day

You’ve been carrying this version of yourself in the back of your mind for years.
A face you haven’t met yet but somehow… you know it’s you.
The place you dreamed about is just as familiar even if you’ve never stood there.
You can almost feel the wind, the weight of it on your skin.
The path toward it is clear, but every step feels heavy.
Maybe the leap will hurt.
But maybe it’s the only way to arrive.

Deja vu. But for a home that’s not your home. Not the one you were born in, anyway. It’s almost like a past life in the future. You have faint memories of it happening, but the visions are unclear, the intellect cannot grasp it. But your heart knows.

It’s a version of yourself that knows a place where it feels utterly at home, and pines for it. The resolute calm from the knowing. The cocksure certainty you feel in your bones. The sorrowful longing of not being whole.

It’s familiar, yet new. In this life.

Here I am, at mid-life, discovering this place.
Wished I found it—no, wished it found me—earlier.
But some people never even.
So, considering… it’s not too late at all.
Not at all.

One day.
One day.
