One month on creatine

It’s been one month since I started on creatine.

Some observations and thoughts:

  • I split up the 6g dose into 2 courses over the day, to try to avoid my coffee times. So 3g at 9am breakfast (I have coffee at 5am), and one after dinner around 7pm.
  • Does caffeine affect creatine absorption? No data as I avoided it mostly. But initial research seems like the counter-effects are exaggerated
  • So far, still enjoying using capsule form than powder. Just pop and go. No need to mix and drink or whatsoever.
  • Felt more energy yes, but not a mindblowing increase. Like, for my usual pull-ups routine of 10 reps, I felt I could do 2-3 more. So maybe about 20% more energy/endurance? A modest boost.
  • Muscle gain - no noticeable effect, but could be because I don’t gym.
  • Unsure about cognitive effects. Maybe need to do it longer to feel it?
  • No side effects whatsoever. No dehydration neither.
  • Overall, it’s as useful as a supplement is useful. It simply supplements. The effects are not as intense as like say, caffeine, or the benefits as immediate and obvious as magnesium. It’s probably similar to Vit C - good to have, not must have.
  • Maybe it’s due to my lifestyle too? I don’t go to the gym or lift. It’s just body weight exercises in the morning. Not sure you need creatine for that… Plus I’m a heavy meat eater already, so maybe I’m getting more creatine than most?

Will continue for a few more months to see…

Comments

I’ve been taking creatine gummies for not quite a month. I can’t say I’ve had any noticeable effects. Maybe I should start wearing a pin that reads “I don’t gym.”

Yeah when I tweeted it out, a common reply is “you got to gym otherwise creatine doesn’t really work”
