PEMF

If you ever held two magnets of the same polarity in your hand and tried to force them together, the resistance you felt is a static magnetic field. A changing magnetic field, such as a magnetic field moving through a coil, generates an electric field called an electromagnetic field. The physical field produced by moving electrical charges is called a pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF).

Why do I care? Magnetic fields affect the behavior of any charged objects in the vicinity of the field. Our bodies are electric, so PEMFs can influence us at a cellular level. PEMFs can provide the following health benefits:

  • Increased circulation
  • Enhanced muscle function
  • Decreased inflammation
  • Stress reduction
  • Bone healing
  • Increase blood oxygenation

Now that I’m no longer visiting the OsteoStrong clinic, I lost access to multiple PEMF devices, namely the Biocharger and a PEMF mat. The Wellness Bar doesn’t have any PEMF devices (yet). I’m exploring this area with great interest, and I will soon have a PEMF device for personal use. I want to see if the therapy helps my hands, gives me even better sleep, and helps me transition into certain brain states, such as alpha or beta, on demand.

Sounds interesting!

How will you be tracking the before and after of using the PEMF device?

With my hands, it will be purely based on whether the pain, stiffness, and inflammation go down. With sleep, I’ll use my Oura ring. For my overall body, I’ll have to rely on how I feel.

@therealbrandonwilson Thanks for sharing. And I love the Oura numbers you shared in the newsletter! My best numbers are usually in the 80s. I don’t recall the last time I had a score in the 90s, but I suspect that happened when I slept for 10 hours 😂

Your suspicion is spot-on. Oura definitely favors longer sleep time, all other variables equal.
