Genuine question: If you’re not building something you’re even remotely interested in, what keeps you going then?

The problem of product-founder fit.

Some say, you don’t have to be passionate about the industry, problem or niche to build a good product and run a profitable business.

Others say, if you don’t even like working on it, how do you keep grinding over the long run?

Which one is right?

Does it boil down to founder personality, what they are motivated by at the core?

If you’re more inclined to extrinsic motivation, then perhaps just getting feedback, acquiring customers and earning money is sufficient to keep you going.

If you’re more inclined to intrinsic motivation, then perhaps you need a personal sense of connection behind your work, and how it aligns with your values, worldview, purpose.

I feel like I’m more of the latter. But I can also imagine people who are the former. I’ve met people like that.

So there is no right answer to product-founder fit.
