Quantity over Quality

Without context, most people would generally prefer quality over quantity of any given thing, whether it be friends, business relationships, etc. But in certain contexts, quantity beats quality.

I watched a training today where the speaker gave a sales example. He said his brother worked in traditional sales, and his company had a requirement that each salesperson make 200 sales calls per day. That's a lot of calls! I remember working briefly for a company selling newspaper subscriptions, and the computer had an auto-dialer that kept us busy for three hours, from 9 AM to 12 PM. I'm not sure how many calls I made each day, but it had to be over 100. Spoiler alert: I was a terrible newspaper salesman.

I keep coming back to the farming example. Farmers don't plant a handful of seeds. They buy large quantities of seed and spread it everywhere. They know how nature works, and quantity wins over quality. In fact, some would argue that you get closer to higher quality by increasing quantity.

So going after high quantity is going to dredge up a lot of crap. That's the nature of the beast. At least we have all sorts of cool tools to make high-quantity touches much easier.
