Real self-care

Self-care only truly works when you enjoy it.

But I never did.

Even when I did it, it was often out of necessity, not so much because I enjoy it. I did it as a man does with bitter medicine to get well from a disease. And then it’s on to the next goal.

Maybe that’s why.

Maybe that’s why this time, I’m taking this long to recover from burnout. Because self-care was a struggle to enjoy.

Until now.

Recently, really starting to enjoy a few self-care things I do:

Waking up late.
Waking up without an alarm.
Doing what’s needed, and not more.
Time off Twitter.
Less yapping online.
Shower in the afternoon when it’s just too hot.
Chilling out to hygge videos.
Eating whatever I feel I need without worry.
Taking care of what’s important first.

All good signs.

Because when you start enjoying it, it means you’re truly stopping, and recovering.

Eating whatever I feel I need without worry - I love food therapy, and is a must some time.
