Season to commit, season to not commit

Even as I mentally prepared myself for going back to employment, things are now moving forward again, right on cue for start of the year. Potential new gigs, possible training workshop opportunities, even a freelance web design project.

As much as I’m comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty, this is pushing it.

Which direction to throw myself into, and put my commitment behind? It’s hard to say now, because the wind can blow any which way.

Perhaps in asking that question, it reveals a fundamental assumption gone wrong.

Maybe, instead of finding something to commit to too early, now is the time to stay uncommitted, and keep all options open. To bide my time, watch every door and window, act and place early bets, and see which one to commit to as it swings open.

There’s a season to commit, and a season to not commit.

Maybe now is that time for the latter.

And to be at peace with it.
