Somatics are messengers

Anger is telling you where your boundaries had been breached, where you felt powerless.
Anxiety acknowledges something in your life is missing, is off-balanced, is not moderated.
If feelings are messengers from the heart, thoughts are messengers from the mind, what word can we call the messengers from the physical body?
Somatics.
Somatic signals.
Sensory cues.
Bodily senses.
Embodiment.
Sound silly yes, because we know this.
Hunger. Thirst. Pain. Heat.
These are obvious and common enough.
But I’m not so good at listening to the somatic signals that starts off as whispers, that’s easy to brush off as non-critical.
Brainfog.
Constant fatigue.
Chronic headaches.
Low energy.
Low motivation.
Low moods.
Seeking distraction.
Sugar cravings.
Small aches and pains.
Low energy might be telling you you’re too burned out.
Seeking distraction and procrastination might be saying you’re mentally exhausted.
Sugar cravings might be a sign of gut issues.
Small aches and pains might be showing that you’re carrying too much
You get my point.
Your somatics aren’t meant to be ignored, brushed off or laughed away. They have a purpose.
Somatics are useful.
Sure, don’t react reflexively to them. Don’t be a slave to impulses.
Respond moderately.
But acknowledge them, listen to them, and hear what they have to say.
Somatics are messengers.
This reminds me of a framework I’ve been studying (Perceptual Control Theory). My AI says it better than I can, so here’s the quote:
