Sweet surrender

I love this tweet:
Have some friends whose careers are absolutely taking off, and the common theme among them is how they’ve surrendered to their nature. They’re done trying to be somebody they’re not…
Surrender is terrifying at first. It comes with a loss of control. Chances are, you’ll disappoint your parents, teachers, and probably even yourself. If you’re doing it right, you may even pursue low-status projects. Hate to break it to you, but the vision you’ve always had for your future also won’t come true because that vision was predicated on the person you wish you were, not the person you actually are. What feels like the death of your dreams is actually the birth of something much more profound.
There’s ease on the other side of surrender.
Made me reflect deeply and ask myself on how much am I trying to be someone I’m not, how much have I surrendered to my nature.
What are the signs to look out for?
What are the signals that a person is done trying to be somebody else and surrendering to his/her true nature?
- Feel lighter and more joyous in their work.
- There’s a spark, a fire in their eyes. Often, a fiery passion in the belly too.
- Comes across as genuine, real, raw, authentic, even if you’re not always agreeable.
- Even when faced with unsavoury tasks or “low status projects”, one is less resistant because you see the bigger picture.
- You’re at peace with practicing strategic incompetence and don’t try to do it all. Some things you know you are bad at and don’t enjoy, you outsource, get help, or avoid altogether.
- You focus on amplifying your strengths and assets instead of navel-gazing and self-flagellation on your weaknesses and lacks.
- Collaboration over competition, even if you’re okay with a good old race to the finish with a competitor.
- More opportunities coming to you because of all of the above.
What else? What other signals are there?
