It's time to get serious and become a professional in the industry. I started the first module of the Go Pro Certification program from Eric Worre--Sales Mastery. Right off the top, Eric shared the 8 principles of success in this business.

  1. Personal development is the foundation of success. Eric likes to say that network marketing is professional development disguised as a business. When in doubt, work on yourself, and the business will naturally grow.
  2. You are a business owner. Have a business mindset. Because the barrier to entry is so low, most people don't treat this business like a business. Even if you are part-time like I am, you must treat this like a business if you want to be successful.
  3. You should be networking, not just network marketing. Networking is about expanding your network. This applies to any business. You should always be widening your circle of people you know, either potential customers or business partners. You never know when someone may introduce you to someone else who could make all the difference in your business.
  4. The goal is to educate people so they understand what we have. It's called sales, but we're really in the education business. If the product/service is great and fills a need in the marketplace, then our job is to find the people who have that problem and help them understand the solution. An educated person has an easier time making a decision.
  5. Our business is radical simplicity. Making something super simple takes work. It's easy to let things get complicated. It's like weeds popping up in a garden. Stay focused on keeping things extremely simple and be vigilant about maintaining this in all aspects of the business.
  6. All business is conversation. The goal is to have 100 conversations going at any given time. This doesn't mean reaching out to people and immediately pitching what you have. It means starting conversations and keeping them going. Relationships first.
  7. Third-party tools are vital for success. You may be the face of your business, but to grow a successful team, what you do must be duplicatable by everyone else on the team. Third-party tools are critical for helping people get started quickly, achieve success, and help others do the same.
  8. The fortune is in the follow-up. Follow-up is usually more involved in prospecting, but even in sales, some follow-up is necessary, especially if you have a high price point or have an offering that requires more education.

Reminds me of the man who first started shipping ice to Cuba. People didn’t know what to do with it, so he started giving ice to the bars so they could add it to drinks for free.
