There's always something

There’s always something.

Something to fix.
Something to worry about.
Something to take care of.

The leaking tap.
The toilet seat.
The broken coffee machine.

Wife’s painful allergies.
Parents’ persistent cough.
Kid’s daily needs.

Fourteen-hour work days to toil through.
Much money to be earned.
Things to provide for.

I fix what needed fixing.
I plan for what needed worrying over.
I took care of stuff that needing taking care of.

Then, the briefest window of calm and quiet…
Only to start all over again.

Something new to fix.
Something new to worry about.
Something new to take care of.

There’s always something.

That’s why you wonder why adults feel that time is passing extremely fast; there are too many things to fix.

During my sabbatical it felt like anything and everything would pop up to distract me from what I want to do. First it was setting my son up at uni in a different country. When we returned to Kuwait my daughter had a knee injury, which meant lots of doctor’s check-ups and need to help with taking her to school and picking her up. Then paperwork for my mom, then an increase in work at the startup during fundraising, and the demands and distractions continued.

I’ve had to accept these distractions as part of life, but also commit some hours to my dream project (creating online courses) as a non-negotiable I won’t compromise. I can be flexible in shifting some hours, but I have to return to make some progress with them, no matter what new chores are thrown my way.

@knight Oh man, i think that’s 10x more with 3 kids. 💪

@haideralmosawi sometimes i wonder if it’s like a test… like the universe taunting, “How much do you want this?!” Haha
