To get to 10,000 steps

Today I spent 45 minutes on the treadmill and reached about 5,000 steps. But I was too bored and agitated to continue. I might have had energy to put in more time, but I didn’t want to force myself to go on. I generally want to associate positive emotions to positive actions.

But how will I get to 10,000 steps if I’m not willing to spend more than 45 minutes on the treadmill?

One way would be to split my exercise into 2x 45min sessions. THIS I can do. I’m willing to do. I’m excited about doing. I don’t have to worry about long and dull walks. Maybe 3x 30min sessions are even easier to do!

BUT!!! This strategy may not be ideal for fat-loss because fat-loss properly kicks in after an extended walk (I think ChatGPT said it’s only 40 minutes into a walk that the body switches more to fat-burning). However, when it comes to habit-building, I don’t prioritize effectiveness. I prioritize willingness. I prioritize enthusiasm to showing up. The effectiveness will take care of itself in due time. I’ll feel comfortable with 30 and 45-minute walks and I’ll desire a bigger challenge. 45 minutes on the treadmill will soon feel like nothing and I can continue to spend more time on the treadmill.

Do you have a daily walking goal? If yes, what strategies have helped you achieve it (if you have)?
