The #1 killer of dreams is not lack of potential, but rather lack of urgency.
A natural edge you do not cash in eventually expires. – @justinskycak
Ouch.
That was so true and real it stung. Because it happened to me.
Three things I wished I cashed in on earlier:
My 15k Twitter audience.
I spent much sweat and tears building an audience. Many a time I had some idea to sell an info product, or start a cohort course about writing, when these things are trending. But I never did. “On Twitter to make friends”, I proudly said. Now I think it might just have been a mix of virtue signalling plus fear/procrastination in disguise. Nothing needs to last forever or have to be your life’s work. I could have just cashed in, earn some change, and then move on to the next thing.
Energy to build
All the way up from 2015 till before around 2020-2022 I had lots of energy to build. Times were better, economy was better, money was better. I should have built more, launched more paying apps, and cashed in on that drive that gets me up at 4am everyday. We don’t get many such golden five years of youth, motivation and good external conditions to build and fail. That perfect alignments of the planets might never appear again.
AI wave
With AI making it sooo easy to build, I should really be building and cashing in on making just about anything right now. Agents can build so fast I can validate businesses in days and weeks. But yet, I’m too burned out, too exhausted, too demotivated all the time. Too busy working 14h work days to have time for anything else. I feel I’d already missed the train. Right under my nose.
So consistency is good and all, but opportunity doesn’t wait around while you do your reps. Urgency, not talent, unfortunately, is the key.
