Waking heart rate

I’ve been sleep tracking for a while. Since Feb 2020. So it’s been four years.
One underrated but high leverage health hack I learned from my sleep tracking data:
♥️ Waking heart rate

My usual waking heart rate is in the 60s range, so getting 80s is unusual. And typically I can feel it as the day unfolds - body aches, low energy, sniffy nose.
Signs of the body fighting a possible infection.
Waking heart rate is like a crystal ball of your health for the day or the week. I can say it pretty accurately predicts something is going on. Of course, it doesn’t always mature into a fullblown cold or illness. If I take good care of myself for the next few days—rest more, eat well, drink water, move more—till the waking heart rate lowers, I could dodge the bullet.
So now I immediately know what to do when I see my waking heart rate in 80s.
Like yesterday!
And guess what my waking heart rate is today on waking up? 70.
Works. Every. Time.

I usually find the 4-7-8 breathing routine (inhale for the count of 4, hold for a count of 7, and exhale for a count of 8) helps me relax almost immediately. Do you notice yourself waking up with shallow/faster breathing? Maybe some breathing exercises can help bring your heart down when it’s up.
@drodol Sleep Cycle app! Basic tracking, mostly works
@haideralmosawi Oh this is not about trying to bring it down (which we can if we want to). More like observing it as an early signal of impeding signal of illness

Very interesting! What are you using for tracking? Apple watch or? Which app?
