Welcome back

My client seems to have gone from 0-60 over the last week, now that the system upgrade project is fully operational. It appears I missed a lot during the three days I was out.

In the first meeting of the day, I heard my name multiple times, followed by gobbledegook. Apparently, they've already assigned me tasks about which I have no information. heard something about revising some existing requirements documentation, and I thought I would receive clearer direction. Instead, I received an email with six Word documents. That's the consultant life--figure it all out with minimal instructions.

I heard some puzzling information in another call today. There's a business unit at my client that is part of a union. The manager explained that the "bargaining unit" requires very clear instructions for their tasks. I asked my manager, "Does this mean that non-union teams don't have to have clear instructions?" And she chuckled and agreed that the distinction was rather silly.

Some tasks take a lot of background work with little to show for my time. I generated a monthly file today and revised it based on some new criteria. Always good to get points on the board and let them know I'm back in action.
