Where to network?

@haideralmosawi talked about organizing and attending networking events, and I started thinking about how I should apply the art of networking in a way that works for me.

Yesterday, I had a conversation with the Presidential Director in my upline, and I shared some concerns about the latest push to "launch the business." They are using a playbook that I have experienced with a previous network marketing company. You create your prospect list, and then you have a script you send to people to get them to take a look at the opportunity. It's a high-volume game where you try to get as many exposures as possible. The problem with this approach, in my view, is it is very artificial. It doesn't make sense to reach out to someone on Facebook I haven't talked to in five years and suddenly start telling them about some opportunity. What's the rush?

I prefer to grow my network and business organically. I want to establish meaningful relationships. I'm looking for people I want to work with, and the beauty of this business model is that I can choose my coworkers.

I still plan to use Facebook, and this month, I'm taking a seminar designed to help network marketers be successful on social media. I'm also exploring Next Door, a Facebook clone for my local neighborhood. It's certainly out of the comfort zone of this introvert, but I realize it is a stepping stone to my dream.

You might want to blend individual outreach with public posts that can have people approach you if they’re interested. Sometimes we can share an interest to have like-minded people do the outreach. 😄
