Worry is like gas

My personal sabbatical has officially begun, and I feel so excited and relieved! I can spend my time how I please and work on whatever I want. I can go for long walks, work from different cafes, and watch all the shows I want.

What’s funny is that even before the personal sabbatical I had these opportunities, but the responsibility I felt for client projects made me constantly think about them, with little headspace to think about anything else.

Worry is like gas, in that it fills up our entire calendar. It’s hard to compartmentalize worry into specific hours of the day. It’s all-consuming. I honestly don’t know if there’s a way to tame worry so that I can free up time and mental space from it.

Or maybe filling up my time with other pursuits and exploration can help me detach from work worries. Although I’ve gotten a lot better at freeing up time and not working around the clock, but I’ve never managed to experience this level of calm and lightness before, and I’d love to be able to learn how to experience this state of mind all the time.

Do you relate to this? Do you have any suggestions on how to prevent worry from taking over our lives?

Yes, I love that sense of calm and lightness of a personal sabbatical. I experience it when I have earned enough for the year, and no longer need to take on projects for money. Really miss that feeling!
